Celebrating Pagan Culture
Lord Lupus is a dark dungeon synth artist hailing from Abruzzo, Italy, weaving haunting melodies inspired by history and the occult, and paganism. Their atmospheric soundscapes evoke ancient rites and mythical realms, inviting listeners into shadowed worlds.
What inspired you to start the Lord Lupus project? What are your influences?
Hello! Thanks for the opportunity! The Lord Lupus project was born in 2012, being passionate about everything that is fantasy, ancient and occult. In the darkness of my room I composed the first demos but I never published anything until 2023 when an Italian label, the "Pontinian Black Metal Label", chose to publish my first album "Ode to the Fallen", from then on two more albums arrived, published by the "Wotanic Pride" American label. My influences and source of inspiration range from summoning to caladan brood, to pass by Italian bands like my brothers, Atavicus and Nunc et semper true pillars of the genre and Italian music.
How long have you been making music?
I started playing guitar at the age of 6, first classical and then electric, gradually I taught myself to play the keyboard and synths, music is a source of life for me.
What are you working on now? What are you plans for future releases?
A lot is cooking! my third album “Gentium vel fortissimarum Italiae” will be released on January 1, 2025, an album dedicated to the history of the Italic people of the Samnites, the lineage from which I descend and who populated these lands. after that I think I'll take a little break to dedicate myself to my family, but I already know that it won't last long because I have a lot of sources of inspiration!
What role does paganism play in your music?
Paganism plays a fundamental role in my music, it is an integral part of it. As an italic and european my beliefs are directed to the pantheon of deities that my ancestors worshiped, deities that unfortunately as in most cases have been destroyed and forgotten with the advent of christianity, but through my music I try to keep their memory alive and not to extinguish that sacred fire that is in each of us, of remembrance towards our ancestors, our blood and our lineage. in each album of lord lupus you will find dedications and references to them and to the splendor of the italic peoples who have contributed to making these wonderful lands great and immortal.
You describe yourself as "Italic dungeon synth" tell us about how your homeland of Italy inspires and influences you
My land, Abruzzo, it is a magical land made of breathtaking landscapes, stories of heroes and legends, a perfect place to make music to draw inspiration.
We are surrounded by two enormous mountains, the "Majella and the Gran Sasso" and it is precisely around these peaks that a story is hidden that represents the cult of our divinities, Maja, the most beautiful nymph of the Pleiades and daughter of Atlas and Pleione, is the mother of Hermes, a giant, son of Zeus. She flees from Phrygia to save Hermes, wounded in battle and pursued by his enemies. He finds shelter in a cave on the Gran Sasso. Hermes is seriously injured and needs treatment, so Maja goes in search of some medicinal herb capable of healing him. The snow slows down her research and Hermes dies. Maja, desperate and afflicted by the premature loss of her son, buries him on the Gran Sasso and lets herself die from the pain. There where he buried his son, the mountain takes the shape of the "Sleeping Giant", while at the point where the nymph died you can recognize the profile of a beautiful sleeping woman, the “Majella” . The shepherds who go to the mountain, according to legend, can hear the desperate moans of Maja during the days of storm and snow.
All this inspired Lord Lupus to create an italic synth dungeon, inspired by the love for his land and his roots, to make my warrior and divine lineage known in the world, it is the least I can do to honor the gods and my ancestors.
I take my leave and thank you for the opportunity! I will quote a phrase in the “osco sannita” language, the language of my ancestors: "Hirpus Harpe Tahè Kyuì" The wolves fight for freedom.
